Emergency Dentistry In West Hartford

Our West Hartford office

What Is Emergency Dentistry?

Emergency dentistry is the prioritization and treatment of dental issues that require urgent attention to relieve pain and prevent worsening problems. Emergency dentistry encompasses any urgent treatment that can’t wait for a normally scheduled appointment at our West Hartford practice.

When we notice problems with our teeth or gums, we usually call up the dentist to inquire about the next available appointment and agree to wait until they can fit us in. However, with emergency dental appointments, we can treat you right away because we leave room in our schedule to accommodate patients who are dealing with serious oral health problems that cannot wait.

What Counts As A Dental Emergency?

There are a variety of circumstances that could be considered dental emergencies. Typically, they involve dental trauma or tooth decay that has led to serious damage to your teeth, jaw, or soft tissue or an infection. Anything that is causing you severe pain that will not go away is an emergency. Some examples of common dental emergencies include:

- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Knocked-out tooth
- Severe tooth pain
- Signs of infection (abscess, swelling)
- Loose teeth
- Severe tooth damage from dental trauma
- Jaw injury

FAQ’s

What To Expect During An Emergency Appointment

When you make your appointment, we will ask you a range of questions to determine the severity of your problem and if it is considered a dental emergency. When you arrive, our West Hartford team may repeat these questions to determine if the situation has changed at all.

Once you get here, Dr. Kaur will do her best to treat you right away. If you are experiencing severe pain, our top priority is to relieve your discomfort. This is why we will prioritize patients who have severe dental trauma, bleeding, or are experiencing signs of a tooth infection.

We will examine your mouth to determine the cause of the issue and we will administer a local anesthetic to relieve your pain. Depending on the issue, we may need to perform the first step of a root canal or repair damaged teeth. However, you can expect that there may be additional follow-up appointments after this initial appointment.

We want to ensure that we prevent the problem from becoming worse and we make you feel as comfortable as possible. Your treatment may require multiple appointments to treat an infection, create a tooth restoration, or check up on the healing process.
